Louise Botkay, visual artist and filmmaker, studied at the National Film School of France (FEMIS), and filmed in countries such as Haiti, Congo, Niger, Chad, the Netherlands, France and Brazil. She makes films in different media, using both cell phone and video and super-8, 16 and 35 mm film that are developed artisanally by the artist herself. Her works were selected and awarded at festivals such as Oberhausen Festival, Fid de Marseille, VidéoBrasil, Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin, São Paulo film Festival, Brive Festival, Anger 1er Plan Festival, Fespaço, Recife International Window festival, among others. Recently received the E-flux award in the international competition of the festival of Oberhausen 2016.
 His film Vertières was chosen one of the ten best films of 2015 by the magazine Artforum in the selection of the curator and theoretical Nicole Brenez. In 2018 she had a Profile on the international film festival of Oberhausen, curated by Lisette Lagnado. Her more recent work, A film for Ehuana received a prize from the state ministry of culture of Noorth Rhine-Westaphalia- Germany.


Her film “Mammah” was exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide.She lives today in Rio de Janeiro and works between Brazil and France.

Louise Botkay utilizing super 8,16 and 35mm film, video, cell phone that are developed artisanally by the artist herself. Her films were selected and recipients of awards in Movie Festivals (Oberhausen, Fid de Marseille, Vidéobraisl, São Paulo Movie Festival, Brive Festival, Anger 1er Plan Festival, Fespaço, Recife International Window Movie festival, among others).  Her film Vertière I II III is among the Best Films of the Year on Nicole Brenez’s List, on 2015 Art Forum Magazine.
Her film “Mammah” was exhibited in the Christopher Grimes Gallery (Santa Monica, Ca.), at theYerba Buena Center for the Arts (San Francisco), Centre George Pompidou (Paris, France) and  MAM – Museum of Modern Art (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).
She lives today in Rio de Janeiro and works between Brazil and France.

É artista visual e cineasta. Formou-se em cinema na França pela École Nationale Supérieure des Métiers de l’Image et du Son, La Fémis, em 2006. Realiza fotos e filmes usando câmeras de telefone celular, de vídeo e filmes em super­8, 16 e 35 milímetros, revelados artesanalmente pela própria artista. Seus filmes, permeados de silêncio e realizados em países como Haiti, Congo, Níger, Chade, Holanda, França e Brasil, abordam o sincretismo cultural no contexto pós-colonial, investigando os modos de desvelamento do visível pelo dispositivo fílmico. Seu filme VertièresI II III foi eleito um dos dez melhores filmes de 2015 pela revista Artforum na seleção da curadora e teórica Nicole Brenez. Teve sessões retrospectivas pelo festival internacional de Oberhausen 2018, festival Semana dos Realizadores 2016, e festival Cachoeira doc 2016. Teve trabalhos selecionados e premiados em festivais e exposições como no Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro, Videobrasil Sesc, festival internacional de Oberhausen, Fid de Marseille, festival Rencontres Paris Berlin, Festival Semana dos Realizadores, Mostra de Tiradentes, Festival Internacional de Curtas de São Paulo, Festival Cachoeira doc, Festival Janela Internacional de Recife, festival CurtaCinema entre outros. Expôs seus trabalhos no MAM-RJ, na galeria A Gentil Carioca, na Christopher Grimes Gallery e no Videobrasil, entre outros. Recebeu o prêmio E-flux na competição internacional do festival de Oberhausen 2016. seu trabalho foi objeto de uma sessão retrospectiva na Mostra do Filme Livre, na qual recebeu um prêmio pelo conjunto da obra, e outra retrospectiva de seus filmes participou do festival Cachoeira.doc (2016).
Em 2018 teve uma sessão Profile com curadoria de Lisette Lagnado no Festival Internacional de Oberhausen, no qual um de seus últimos trabalhos, “Um filme para Ehuana”, recebeu um prêmio do Ministério da Cultura do Estado da Alemanha Vive no Rio de Janeiro.
